Twitter in Iran

Wikileaks and Afghanistan

  1. I think that Wikileaks is a great site, and I have thought so for some time. Though this story has been one of the few to gain serious attention, the site represents one of the few ways to safely divulge classified information. What I find particularly interesting about this story is the extents to which the United States of America's government went to degrade Wikileaks reputation and hamper their ability to operate. All sorts of blatantly illegal methods were used in attempts to neutralize Wikileaks, and it is only with foreign political support that they are able to continue operation. On a more general note, I think that articles like this are good, if only to serve as a reminder to the government and citizens of how politics have traditionally operated, and how morality factors in. It is my opinion that the only reason the "Afghan-classified papers" did not have more of an impact is because of government media manipulation, and that Wikileaks should remain in the public focus as long as possible, so as to prevent it from being silently eliminated.

  2. I would have to agree with Penguin-Guru when he said that Wikileaks is a great site. I think that it was well written and it had a lot of details that supported the information that was given. I thought that the website was good. I thought that it was crazy that people would be lying about the war, I do not understand why people would do something like that.

When I was reading the other website, I thought that it was crazy that so many people are using the internet for so many things. It makes me think about what it would be like without it. I really do not think people would be able not to have it.

  3. when i first read the title i was suprised that iran elections and social-networking were invlived with eachother. I didint know that Iran had even a clue about twitter, and other social-netowrking services. In my opinion this article would go under odity because it very bizzare. This just demonstrates the fast growing of technology in the world, and people need to catch up,and especially if Iran is having elections involving social-networking.

  4. Reading this article has made me realize that times have change and technology is becoming more advance each day. We as humans depend on technology for mostly everything we do, and even with politics. I would never think that politics would ever be involved with social networking, because politics give the image of as being boring, very old school, and not really any need for technology. Social networking having coverage of the Iranian elections is bizzare but interestin to me.

  5. i do not like twitter. i do not enjoy separating myself from my precious mode of speech, limiting myself to three sentences per idea. it certainly has great impact on our society, and a new way to communicate can't be completely bad, but it does not suit me, and i will avoid it wherever i can.
i'm not a big fan of afghanistan either. if you live in that country, you are an anti-semite, even if you are not. (the logic is that if you aren't an anti-semite, you have no business living in afghanistan.) wikileaks is pretty awesome.

  6. I think that this website is very crazy! I mean, it's just asking for disaster. People could steal vital information about america from this website. This website is very scary to me for some reason. but to be able to post things like private military messages. I think that it should only be accessible to certain people. And Also AG, you don't have to separate yourself from your "precious" mode of speech.

  7. The internet is a very complex and interesting thing. i think that the internet is becoming more advanced as more and more things are invented. Like Hannah said, it is kind of scary. The thing thats scary about it to me is that Twitter can be used as something to organize things such as meetings, or events, or even protests. I already know of some people who use facebook in that way. Twitter is more of a news type website than Facebook is. However, on both websites you can send out notices with information on it about a meeting. Facebook and Twitter are very open though. If you post something on either one of those webisties, it is out there for the whole world wide web to see. that is why i dont really put many things personal on my Facebook. I mean i have a picture and my email address, at the most. That is about it though. I have noticed that some people put a lot of their information out on facebook and even post statuses about something personal, then they complain about everybody knowing about it. if you do not want something to be known about you, dont put it out on the internet.

  8. When I read the article about Twitter in Iran, I thought to myself how lucky I am to live in Amercia because social networking and media was shut down by the government becasue of this election in Iran. I agree with most of my peer's comments. Technolgy is so good to have, but it would be hard to know what is really happening in Iran because some of the news could be false. I thought it was scary when the journalist, who answered peoples question, said what if foreign reporters were unable to go inside to report news; we would have to depend upon twiiter and socila networking. The main questions that would come to our minds would be: Is this true?
When I read the Wikileak article, I was saying that this website was good to have because it tells us information that contradicts what the government would like to hear. I'm not saying that I like to hear information that always opposes the government, but this artcile talked abou how Wikileak told us how devasting the war in Afghanistan is. The government just wants us to support every decision they make. In reality, wars are to diffcult to talk about. Is it good to go to war or not? Technology plays an important role in our everyday life. I think we won't be able to live witout technology from now on. I think that's preety sad.

  9. When I read the Twitter article I thought that it was a good idea and a bad idea. It was a good idea to shut it down because of the people who were using it in a bad way to start riots and protests. It would be a good idea to keep it because of all of the people who do the right thing. I think that they should find a better way to moniter it's use. Twitter is a good source of communicating with other people from far away such as family members that you miss and checking in with old friends. I think that the government should just find a simpiler way to moniter what is going on. Since they are already using this technology it shouldn't be that hard to create a way to protect their government. If they got rid of the it all together that would just create more trouble. Wikileaks is good because they are sharing important critical information that the public should know. Since we have gotten so comfortable with using this technology it would be pretty difficult to just stop using it all together.

  10. personalty i don't like twitter and yea i have an account but i don't see the point of it. i guess it was kinda reasonable to delay the network because of the protest and the election but the part where they trying shut it down because of people doing really bad things it's not really fair because I'm pretty sure it wasn't everyone who was doing bad things.
